dual panels in nemo looks same

dual panels in nemo [shortcut F3] have no difference in appearance to tell which which panel is active.

linux Mint 19.3 xfce.

is there any indicator on other themes? can you show what it looks like with Mint-Y, for example

this is on mint y dark versions [left pane is active].

this is on mint y non dark versions [left pane is active].

And I observed no difference in many other themes like Adwaita, Adwaita dark, Mint X [non dark], xfce-xyz.

how would you make two black panes look different?

In mint y dark versions, the inactive panel has been given a darker shade relative to active/one panel mode. But here, other panel can't be made darker and making active panel of lighter shade for achieving that would ruin the fun. But the inactive panel can be made of lighter shade.

I tried simulating that via gimp:

[left pane active and other pane with lighter shade].

to me, it looks like the lighter one is active. If I set it so that the light pane is active, it breaks the one-paned appearance.

I'd rather have it so the inactive pane has faded text color, like so:

and that's much better design.
