Build a mailing list for CLEAN

BIDS will be hosting a hackathon for the CLEAN project (aka California Police Records Access Project). In preparation, we need to build a Marketing/Outreach contact list – places and people who we want to hear about the hackathon and will share it with their communities.

• Important note: We may reuse this list in the future to share news-related and other events information.

Tasks

• add a new spreadsheet (tab) for the contact list here
  • minimally include fields like name, email, type (staff, faculty, student), department or organization name, and a drop-down list of the suggested groups below (LLM's / AI, Software, etc)
  • if you find there are other fields that would be helpful, please add them
  • note at the top of that spreadsheet that we have not yet created a Google group for this list nor have we created a Mailchimp audience
• look at the following lists and identify people who work on campus (see suggested groups below: LLM's / AI, Software, etc), then add them to the spreadsheet
  • Faculty and Research Affiliates
  • Faculty Council
• look for internal campus groups and mailing lists, including various departments, student groups, etc. that are related to or adjacent to:
  • LLM's / AI
  • Software
  • Public Data / Civic Data
  • Police / Government Transparency and Accountability
  • Journalism
  • Social Sciences
  • Law
  • Public Policy
  • Startups / Entrepreneurship
• wait on this: look for external recruiters or hiring contacts at places that could be looking for recent grads, interns
  people with this a mix of skills (soft + AI).

Something occurred to me - some mailing lists are set up such that only people who own the list may reach out to the contacts on it. To contact the list, we need to contact the manager/owner of the list instead.

For example:
ICSI has a list events@icsi.berkeley.edu. I cannot post directly to it, so I ask someone at ICSI to post. In a case like this, we need a field for primary contact and also list name, if possible.

If this doesn't make sense, please let me know!
