Not exactly a PDFViewerFX topic, but somehow related.

Since PDFViewerFX uses a WebView to display PDFs, maybe you could implement the same for HEIC files!?
There is not really much support to view HEIC files in JavaFX. The libs I found are commercial.

On the other hand there is a JavaScript library:

With this one, one could load a HEIC file into a WebView - very similar to PDFViewerFX.

Just an idea - in case you would find in interesting ;-)

There is a HEIF library by Nokia:

Anyhow it seems to be abandoned. I found that the Java-Library for Mac is not being built, but nobody is picking up the issue:
