Windows 11 Working Config

So took me some time to navigate, but got the GOG version working for windows 11.

Problem :
No text on buttons and slow mouse draw.

Solution :
Setting DDrawCompat20 to 1 inside dxwrapper.ini .

[DDrawCompat]
DDrawCompat20 = 1
DDrawCompat21 = 0
DDrawCompat32 = 0
DDrawCompatDisableGDIHook = 0
DDrawCompatNoProcAffinity = 0

Then setting the following compatibility settings for W11 :

From here you can run direct from gangsters.exe.

Did you try the update here?

You shouldn't need the "Reduced color mode" or the "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" compatibility mode settings.

The one you linked is the first I tried, at least for me out of the box still didn't show the text, I am suspicious it might be due to a fresh windows installation and the windows installer installed some version of Direct draw automatically.

The reduced color mode infact may not be required, but I was getting a fatal error, will try to reproduce' which basically said something along the lines of "try to run in reduced colour 256 mode", however it was before he ini changes, so I will doube check this evening.

All in all, it could definitely be just my environment issues, a fresh W11 install can be a challenge to get all dependencies right.

DirectDraw is part of Windows. If there is an issue with your environment you could try running this command from an administrative command line prompt: sfc /scannow

There could be an issue with the newer versions of DDrawCompat. if 2.0 works for you then great. Maybe I will test this and change it on the wiki.

I tried both DDrawCompat v2.0 and v2.1 and the text shows up as white. Only v3.2 works correctly with the correct text color. But I haven't tested Windows 11 in a while.
