One thing not clearly mentioned in the readme is the use case of the /ping and /test commands...
Obviously a lot of people are testing this technology - some of them are in big cities with lots of nodes, and others are out in the country with less access to other Meshtastic users...
A lot of the time, even in big cities with lots of mesh nodes, it takes people a while to respond - which doesn't give you adequate information about:
Whether your message is truly being received...
How long it took your message to travel through the system...
and whether you are able to receive a message back in your location.
Mesh-AI solves this conundrum by reliably answering "/ping" with "Pong!" and "/test" with your username and your set location string (telling people where they are being received from)...
If a /ping or /test message is received by the Mesh-AI node, it will immediately respond (with a 10 second delay to prevent congestion) - letting you know if you have connectivity in your current location without guessing.
This is a feature, that once implemented in an area, can be very useful for your local Meshtastic community...
We're all curious if we're being heard. Mesh-AI helps solve that problem.
