Just FYI there is interesting device that can be had for cheap second hand. It is nrf52840 based asset tracker with non rechargeable batteries. So once batteries are done the device is thrown away and/or sold on ebay. Also maybe the (removable) sim card is time limited so the device stops working after some time anyway. some info here https://wialon.com/en/gps-hardware/asset/locotrack-hgd4
The pinout and empty arduino project for nrf and esp is here https://github.com/jonasniesner/HGD4_reversed
Yesterday I obtained 2 pieces (for 17.95 EUR each), opened one and will of course try Espruino on it.
The esp8266 uses AT command firmware so the support done for EspruinoWIFI could probably be used as is.
EDIT: here is the video with some more info that started it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UQDqFUL_D8
Unfortunately I am very late to the party since most ebay sellers did not ship to my country or the ones from UK/US had quite expensive shipping. Now when I finally got few of them it looks like guys got already everything figured out.
