Uphil widget question

During a day long hike in the mountains, the uphil- widget doesn't show the correct value (meters climbed in height). In the first few hours of hiking and recording the value is correct, then it stops increasing. After I have saved the recorded trip (in the evening) the widget would show (not always, though) the correct value. Any idea what i am doing wrong?
