deleted message has an undefined deletedAt value

I was expecting some way of checking if a specific message was deleted since it's not actually deleted (the content is just updated to "DELETED"). So if the user just typed in "DELETED" there's no way to check if it was actually deleted since the deletedAt is still undefined even if the message was deleted:
