how can i make the browser close when there are no tabs open?

You can make the browser close automatically when there are no tabs open by setting the preference browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to true in about:config. This is the default behavior, but if it’s not working that way, open a new tab, go to about:config, search for browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab, and set it to true. Now, closing the last tab will close the browser window as expected citation citation.
