What network stack are you using Open vSwitch or Linux bridge?

We are in the design stage of replacing our hypervisor environment to Cloudstack and i wonder following:

Which implementation is most mature and what are you guys using in your environment?
Are there features in Cloudstack i cant use if i use either of this network stacks? Thinking about EVPN+VXLAN

Since OVS is mentioned as a plugin in the documentation and starts with a warning label my gut says it might not be fully up to date with all the features.

There are two ways to use OVS with cloudstack

• use OVS to replace Linux bridge, but still use VLAN isolation. this should work
• use OVS with GRE isolation. GRE tunnels are created between KVM hosts, which is implemented by the OVS plugin. I do not know if anyone is using it. It might not work, especially with VPC features.

During my PoC i did setup OVS and it worked with VLAN isolation as expected.
I was also able to setup a isolated network and then a OVNTunnelXXX interface was created but the GRE tunnel to other KVM hosts was never created, so i had to create that manually.

But we are not really interested in doing GRE and would rather do EVPN+VXLAN and integrate it with our datacenter network.

I use Linux native bridges with VXLAN-EVPN. There's also a discussion thread on SVD (Single VXLAN Device) here that you might find useful: #10786

If you happen to use ansible, there's some roles here I use in my personal testlab deployment: https://github.com/bradh352/ansible-scripts for vxlan-evpn using bgp unnumbered and cloudstack. Even if you don't use ansible, it might provide some insight into configuration.
