Title styles overiew

The title styles defined in uni-titlepage.

The LaTeX package does not provide the title styles itself, but loads them from the corresponding definition files. This is done with the help of the statement \TitlePageStyle or as an option directly when loading the package. This section lists all the title styles with their characteristics. The elements shown in red in the following examples are variable and easily definable by option or command.

Note: Although the sample pages shown here are all in German, the package of course also supports English. Furthermore, all language-dependent terms and phrases are configurable.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style KOMAScript provides the title pages of the KOMA-Script classes. It uses the standard content options subject, title, subtitle, author, date and in addition the following custom content options:

  • extratitle - plain title page,
  • titlehead - head of the main title page,
  • uppertitleback - top of the imprint page (back of the main title page),
  • lowertitleback - lower area of the imprint page (back of the main title page),
  • dedication` - dedication on a separate page.

All these options correspond to the commands of the same name for the title pages documented in the KOMA Script Guide. Besides the content options, there are also options for setting the font of some elements of the title. The same applies to the value of these options as to the corresponding font elements available when using a KOMA Script class:

  • subjectfont - document classification font (subject option).
  • titlefont - font of the main title (title option)
  • subtitlefont - font of the subtitle (option subtitle)

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style TU-DD provides the title pages as used at the SAP endowed chair of the Faculty of Economics at TU-Dresden. It uses the standard content options title, faculty, chair, professor, subject, student, discipline, matriculationnumber, advisor, date, place.

With the help of the additional option blackborder=true you can also switch on a mourning border around the title page, which is sometimes additionally required.

The title style also defines a few additional language-dependent terms (currently for English and German), which can be changed using the \newcaptionname, \renewcaptionname, \providecaptionname interface documented in the KOMA-Script manual for scrbase:

  • \presentedbyname,
  • advisorname,
  • \thename.

The default settings can be found in the file title-TU-DD.def.

It should be noted that the title style presented here differs from what is usually used at TU Dresden and is implemented, for example, in tud-scr.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style TU-HH provides the title pages as required by the doctoral regulations of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg some years ago. It uses the standard content options title, subtitle, student, date, place, subject and furthermore the following additional content options:

  • academicgrade - the academic degree that is to be or has been obtained,
  • referee - the reviewers; the names of the individual reviewers are to be separated with \protect\and,
  • oralexamdate - the date of the oral examination.

As the place of birth place is used. As the year of submission or approval of the work date is used.

The additional option final=true can be used to switch to the approved version with title back.

The title style also defines a few additional language-dependent terms (currently for English and German) which can be changed using the \newcaptionname, \renewcaptionname, \providecaptionname interface documented in the KOMA-Script manual for scrbase:

  • \presentationinformation,
  • \fromname,
  • \fromplacename, `
  • \refereename,
  • \oralexaminationdatename.

The default settings can be found in the file title-TU-HH.def.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style Markus-1 is copied from the style of the title in the KOMA-Script book. Here the publisher is output on the first page of the extra title, the authors end up on the back of the extra title. The illustration then shows the main title page. All title elements and font setting options of the KOMA-Script classes are supported except 'extratitle'.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style Markus-2 is grown on my crap, because such similar styles are requested from time to time. All title elements and font setting options of the KOMA-Script classes are supported. Additionally the following options exist:

  • rulewidth=<width> - Specifies the width of an optional line on the left margin of the main title page. The default is 0pt, which means no line. In the example illustration rulewidth=2pt was used.
  • rulesep=<distance> - Specifies the distance from the optional line (see rulewidth). The default is to use a spacing of 10pt if the line width is greater than 0pt, and 0pt otherwise. The sample image was created with this default setting.
  • rulecolor=<color> - Specifies the color of the optional line. The default is no color change and so usually black. You need to load a color package like xcolor to be able to change the color. See the manual of that color package for information about available colors.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style Spacer is based on a request from user spacer2012 on komascript.de. It uses the same title elements as Markus-2, but places the header differently.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style DHBW is based on a request from Josef Schmidbauer and implements the sample title he requested for work at the Duale Hochschulen Baden-Württemberg. For legal reasons, the logo is not included in the sample or in the package itself, but is replaced by a red filled box. However, the instructions indicate where the logo can be downloaded.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style KIT is visually based on the title page shown in the template for student theses and dissertations of the LaTeX recommendation of KIT some years ago. However, some differences between the English and German versions have been eliminated here and minor details generalized. For legal reasons the logo is not included in the example and also in the package itself, but replaced by a red filled box. However, a suitable logo can be downloaded from the Pages of KIT. Alternative sources are given in the instructions. By the way, the LaTeX template of KIT itself has been improved due to a criticism of the uni-titlepage author some years ago.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style JT-Aufsaetze is visually based on the book "Jan Tschichold: Ausgewählte Aufsätze über Fragen der Gestalt des Buches und der Typographie, Birkhäuser Verlag Basel, 1975, ISBN: 3-7643-1946-1". In addition to the main title page shown here with the elements author, title and publisher, an extra title by extratitle and a title back by uppertitleback and lowertitleback are also supported. The lines shown in the main title can be influenced via rulewidth and rulesep. If you load a color package like xcolor you can also change the color with option rulecolor.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style JT-Geschichte is visually based on the book "Jan Tschichold: Geschichte der Schrift in Bildern; Holbein-Verlag, 1947". In addition to the main title page shown here with the elements author, title, publisher, place, an extra title via extratitle and a title back with uppertitleback and lowertitleback are also supported. The lines shown in the main title can be influenced via rulewidth and rulesep. If you load a color package like xcolor you can also change the color with option rulecolor.

It should be noted that the default for titlepagefont sets everything except the title in ad-hoc letter-spaced uppercase using \lsstyle, if this instruction is available. Otherwise, small caps are used without letter-spacing. Changing titlepagefont also changes this automatism. \lsstyle is normally provided by the microtype package, but it is not loaded automatically.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe title style JT-Typography is visually based on the book "Jan Tschichold: The New Typography; University of California Press, Berkley and Los Angeles, California 1995". Besides the main title page shown here with the elements author, title, subtitle, place, date and publisher, an extra title via extratitle and a title back with uppertitleback and lowertitleback are also supported.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe style WWUM is based on specifications of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. In addition to the main title page shown here with the elements chair, science, university, title, subject, degree, discipline, author, place and faculty, an extra title with author, title and current year, as well as a reverse title page with professor and referee are also generated.

Abbildung nicht verfügbarThe style UKoLa is based on specifications of the University of Koblenz-Landau. In the sample image, the official logo has been replaced by a red rectangle. Only a single title page exists so far.
