CytoClusOnLinux

This is a short guide for installing CytoClus from CytoBuoy on a linux system.

Prerequsites:

This guide requires a flatpak enabled system. See https://flathub.org/setup for how to setup flatpak for your system.

It also requires an installation executable for CytoClus from CytoBuoy. This can be downloaded from their Customer Portal with a valid login.

The setup has been tested with the offline installation and version CytoClus 5: 5.1.402.

Finally the backup_cc.yml file from this repository is also required. I recommend downloading the file and putting it into to your Downloads directory.

Install guide

With flatpak enabled install Bottles. Clicking the install button at the flathub site should redirect you to your software store which will handle the installation. The dropdown menu besides the install button shows how to install the application from a terminal.

  1. Click the plus icon in the upper left corner to add a new bottle.

  2. Pick a name for the bottle, fx. CytoClus.

  3. Change bottle type from Application to Custom.

  4. Scroll down to Import Configuration and click the folder icon on the right.

  5. Select the backup_cc.yml and click Open.

  6. Click the blue Create button. If the button is not clickable ensure you have picked a name in step 2. This will recreate a tested environment following a recipe from a tested setup. During this step you will prompted about the installation of various dotnet components required for running the program. These will be installed in an isolated container, and should therefore not affect your host system.

  7. After a succssfull installation click the run executeable button and choose the CytoClus installation file.

CytoClus should now be listed in the programs section in the bottle, and can be run by clicked the triangle button.

I can be added to your standard application launcher be clicking the + Add Shortcuts... button. Depending on your setup, this might require and extra setup step.
