Ability to control the look of x and y axes

Dear all,

I wonder if it is possible to control the look of the axes. For example, in my case, I would like to control the color, width and offset of the x-axis, so that it appears a bit above the canvas and has the same color and with as the canvas border, instead of being a razor thin black appearing directly on top of the border.

Is this possible to accomplish?

If not, I would like to request this as a feature.
